Have you ever just had one of those moments in your life where you're just sitting there saying to yourself "What the hell am I doing with my life" or even "How are people going to remember me when I'm gone". Over the last several years I have made some serious changes in my life. I realized that I wasn't living a fulfilling life and I just wasn't happy. After I closed my first major business I didn't quite want to face the reality of the business failing and did that reflect me, my marriage was over, and I was just an angry person. I started going to counseling and soon realized that I was the problem and in order to be happy it was going to have to be a me thing and not relying on someone or something to make me happy.
I was fortunate to land a job quickly after the bakery closed and worked my way into the parent company soon after as a district manager. I quickly realized I didn't know half as much as I thought and definitely not as much as I should have for the position. Nonetheless I found myself working for an awesome company that I thought I would call home forever. At one of our leadership meetings the company wanted to create a culture committee and I was more than willing to join. Our first task was to read Non-Negotiable the story of Happy Valley Start Bank and the Power of Accountability, little did I know the impact it would play on my life. I read it in one sitting and soon after started my list of my own Non-Negotiable things for my life.
Always do what's right
God, Kids, Family, Self
If you're able to Help, Help
Family First (Even your ex wife she is still the mother of your Children)
Don't half ass it, ever
Say what you mean, and mean what you say
Have Fun, Life is about Living
20% all the time (at least when tipping)
Always forgive (you don't have to forget)
Take responsibility and accountability for your actions
Above is my list that I try to live my life by. It is eye opening to realize that someday you will die and your tombstone there will be the year you were born (1985 - ????) a dash and the year you died. It's scary to think that your whole life is summed up in a DASH! People will remember you by how you treated them and the things you have done. That was just a WOW moment in my life that I realized I needed to make some changes.
I challenge you though to make a list of non-negotiable things in your life and definitely read the book if you get a chance. Below is a video I did on this topic as well today! Make sure you follow Instagram and Twitter at Shepherds_coach and on Facebook at Shepherds Consulting Group!
